Be The Change Permian Basin is a non-profit organization committed to bringing healing, hope, and connection to the teens of the Permian Basin region. Through its impactful and powerful programs known as Challenge Day and BTC LEADS, Be the Change seeks to bring greater social and emotional development skills to the teens it services.
Having children of her own, Sandra Candia empathized with students who fight their own internal battles. Therefore, in October 2011, from private donation funds raised by Sandra, BTC LEADS would be conceived and she would host Challenge Day for 400 students of the Midland Christian campus. The following year, a planning committee comprised of a variety of community members raised donations to serve hundreds of more high school students. With such a success record of the programs and the students it serviced, as well as some help from the Permian Basin Area Foundation, Permian Basin—Be the Change would be founded and granted the 501(c)3 status in the 2013-2014 school year. In that same year, the newly founded organization would also serve over 2500 students. Since Be the Change Permian Basin’s inception, its programs have serviced thousands of students.
